This project met the airport's expectations, creating a functional, accessible space with enhanced aesthetics and wellbeing through biophilic design. I'm grateful for the opportunity to design this attractive environment, fostering community and respecting individuality.
In close collaboration with the team at Alicante Airport and Doublet Ibérica, we at Green Furniture Concept contributed to the development of a new seating landscape for the commercial area aimed at enhancing the passenger experience and reinforcing the commercial potential of the terminal. This project focused on creating a welcoming and functional space where travelers could pause and relax. A place that invites people to spend more time, feel more at ease, and enjoy the terminal before departure rather than rushing through the area.
The Challenge
Alicante Airport was looking to optimise its commercial area, transforming it into a more welcoming and intuitive space that could meet the needs of a diverse flow of passengers. The need was to create an area where passengers could rest, relax, and enjoy a pleasant atmosphere before boarding.
Together, we set out to design a place that would foster this sense of wellbeing, while allowing the permeability of passenger flow from one side of the shopping area to the other, giving high visibility for all the surrounding shops.

The Solution
We explored ideas that would combine functionality with a sense of place. The result was a seating arrangement centered around three open plazas; spaces designed to offer moments of connection and calm, while remaining visually open and accessible. The configuration encourages both social interaction and privacy, depending on the needs of each traveler. In parallel, biophilic design-inspired seating was installed to guide pedestrian traffic in a natural way while offering inviting places to take a break along the way.
To promote comfort and flexibility, the Ascent and Nova C seating series were selected. Crafted from natural wood, these timeless pieces contribute to a calming atmosphere and foster a tactile connection that enhances overall well-being. In addition, they offer a large seating capacity and a modular approach that can be adapted to the evolving needs of the space. To add another biophilic element, planters were integrated into the Nova C configurations, adding warmth and contributing to a more calming atmosphere.
The Result
Since its implementation, the area has been well-received by passengers, who have appreciated the opportunity to rest and enjoy a more relaxed environment within the airport. The result is a biophilic and pleasant atmosphere created in the shopping area that invites passengers to linger.
Conclusion
This project stands as a positive example of what can be achieved through close collaboration, shared ambition, and a human-centred approach to design. We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to enhance this unique architecture of Alicante Airport and contribute to creating an area that supports both people and the environment.
