The new seating not only complements our architectural vision but also enhances both passenger comfort and commercial space. Together with Green Furniture Concept, we created a terminal environment that’s as efficient as it is welcoming.
Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) is undergoing a major transformation as part of its significant terminal expansion plan, aimed at improving comfort, efficiency, and flow for passengers. Green Furniture Concept was selected to contribute to this new terminal by delivering modular and durable seating solutions that support the airport’s long-term vision for environmental responsibility and elevated passenger experiences.
The Challenge
With more and more people travelling each year, the demand for more efficient and aesthetically pleasing terminal spaces is growing. As a result, LBA needed to create more comfortable and inviting waiting areas without compromising on sustainability or design. The airport sought a solution that would offer high seating capacity, flexible configuration, and visual harmony with the terminal’s contemporary design.
The Solution
We explored ideas that would combine functionality with a sense of place. The result was a seating arrangement centered around three open plazas; spaces designed to offer moments of connection and calm, while remaining visually open and accessible. The configuration encourages both social interaction and privacy, depending on the needs of each traveler. In parallel, biophilic design-inspired seating was installed to guide pedestrian traffic in a natural way while offering inviting places to take a break along the way.
To promote comfort and flexibility, the Ascent and Nova C seating series were selected. Crafted from natural wood, these timeless pieces contribute to a calming atmosphere and foster a tactile connection that enhances overall well-being. In addition, they offer a large seating capacity and a modular approach that can be adapted to the evolving needs of the space. To add another biophilic element, planters were integrated into the Nova C configurations, adding warmth and contributing to a more calming atmosphere.
The Result
The installation has played an important role in elevating both the passenger experience and terminal functionality. Despite a 76% increase in retail area, seating capacity has been expanded by an impressive 83%, ensuring greater comfort while increasing commercial space.
Early feedback from travellers has been positive, with the new seating areas reinforcing LBA’s commitment to passenger well-being and efficiency of the terminal area.
Conclusion
The collaboration between Leeds Bradford Airport and Green Furniture Concept showcases how intentionally designed, durable furniture can elevate both aesthetics and functionality in modern travel spaces. As airports continue to evolve into destinations in themselves, Green Furniture Concept is proud to support this shift with designs that invite, relax, and connect.
